Flowers in evening light:

(shot with Meyer Optik Görlitz Oreston 50mm, and deliberately shot to get some backlight "washout" in the photo to enhance the feeling of incoming light)

Some autumn photos taken in the evening a couple of days ago, using long exposure and a tripod,
which in this case is a must unless you have spectacularly steady hands  (lens: Canon FD 50mm):

A scene from Dune: Part Two that was shot with the Helios 44 (inset). My note: Christopher Walken is shown to the right.

Look at the background blur in the shot above and notice how it's distorted (it "swirls").

Helios swirls revisited

I just got me an early version of the Helios 44, a 13 bladed one I found for a good price on a Swedish online auction site. They are pretty sought after and can be hard to find under $100 nowadays.

1 - Helios 44 (13-bladed, front).jpg

It's pretty worn, but the optics are fine. I'm going to do some maintenance on it.

2 - Helios 44 (13-bladed, side).jpg

Front with the 13 blades shown.

First session with the lens was on a lovely, sunny day yesterday, and I'll show what this lens can do (three shots with swirly backgrounds and four more "normal" shots).

I was using it on my Sony A7R full-frame camera so the full character of the lens would come through.
Furthermore I shot with a CPL filter and "vidid" mode on the camera (which boosts colors), and I did not do much postprocessing of the shots.

I processed some shots from last year when I visited a lovely botanical garden.
I spent several hours there shooting lots of different plants and also birds, and I haven't yet gone through all those photos . It can also be fun to let the shots "rest" for a while so you almost forget what you've shot and thus get an extra surprise when you look at them again.

Here are some processed today:

Red tulips:

And last, two yellow tulips:

The wrap-around windows look kind of cool, like the nose of a little airplane. The driver probably has a commanding view of the road lol.

Here is a wraparound windshield you can almost see from the back. About 1955 Oldsmobile, Lower East Side. Along Tompkins Square park

The last couple of years I have actually become a bit of a collector of model cars.

Here are some of the American cars I have in my collection:

Cadillac Eldorado (1955)
1 - Cadillac Eldorado (1955).jpg

Chevrolet Corvette 1957
2 - Chevrolet Corvette 1957 (Burago).jpg

Ford Crown Victoria 1955

Ford Thunderbird (1955)
4 - Ford Thunderbird (1955).jpg

Lincoln Continental
5 - Lincoln Continental - SideView.jpg

Chevrolet Bel Air, Police of Norwich USA 1973
6 - Polisbil, Chevrolet Bel Air, Police of Norwich USA 1973 (Atlas).jpg

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

...and here are a couple of non-American cars I have, but that I want to show
because they are cool :smile::

Alfa Romeo 2300 Spider (1932) - this is one of my favorite cars I have
9 - Alfa Romeo 2300 Spider (1932) (Burago) (1-18).jpg

Lotus Super 7 (1957-1973)
9 - Lotus Super 7 (1957-1973).jpg

Mercedes Benz SSK 1928
9 - Mercedes Benz SSK 1928 (Burago).jpg

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The coolest and most beautiful model car I have seen is this one:

Horch 853 (1937) 1:18

They are exquisitely made and thus quite expensive, and I haven't found one yet for a price
that suits me . But one day I will probably own one.

That was my "wrap-around windshield" car:

mercury 1956.JPG

The only car I regret selling. But I wanted to travel across North America in a convertible, so I sunk my money in my '69 Firebird instead:

mapUSA.JPG

Still, for the ultimate wrap-around window treatment, you need the "flat top" design, like this Chevrolet 1960:

I've seen the Wienermobile a couple of times on the road, but wasn't able to grab a picture. I do have a pic of the L.L. Bean Bootmobile!

What a wonderful day I had today... ...walking around the city in perfect weather and somehow so many things seemed to work just right. I have no idea why, but I got a load of great photo opportunities just coming at me at full speed. It was wild, I think I shot 5-10 times more photos than I would have thought.

Here's one, quickly processed and shot less than an hour ago:
